Hollywood Hyprocrisy

I haven't watched the academy awards in years, and this year just reminded me why. It is the most self congratulatory event I have ever seen, and it's for the most self indulgent, out of touch, spoiled group of people on the planet. I'm usually somewhat ok with that because they just don't know any better, they think they are normal. This year was different, they felt it was their mission to tell the rest of the country to live green and save the world from global warming. Melissa Etheridge's performance of her song from "An Inconvenient Truth" really got to me; during the song there were quotes on how we could help global warming. Here are a few…

"Are you ready to change the way you live?"

"When you can, use light rail + mass transit."

"Pray that people will find the strength to change."

My wife and I already drive 3 economy cars that get 30+ miles per gallon, that we also bought used, which means three less new cars had to be produced. We live in a 1400 sq. ft. house with an automatic thermostat that is set no higher than 68 in the winter and lower than 75 in the summer, our combined electric and gas bill is around $180 a month. We recycle just about everything, and only throw out two bags of garbage every week, and we don't use lights that often, I'm not home that much and she goes to bed early and after she gets home from work there is about a two hour window where she has the lights on. What more do you want me to change?? But here is the deal when Hollywood says things like "YOU" that's exactly what they mean. YOU the little people, not "WE" basically you change so we can keep living our exorbitant lifestyle that we need because we are important. Compared to my lifestyle of three used economy cars these people have garages full of cars like Bentleys, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, Maybachs, Aston Martins, Escalades, Rolls Royces, and let's not forget the line of limousines that they arrive to the academy awards in. All of these cars are NEW not used, and they all together get an average of around 11-17 miles per gallon. PLUS all but the Escalades and the limos are made in Europe, and have to be shipped over to the U.S. by ships which might just burn a TON of carbon emitting fuel to get here. Usually these cars are traded in as soon as a newer better model comes out, there for causing more factories to pollute and more ships to come across the ocean. Oh sure a lot of the Hollywood stars make themselves look good by driving hybrids like the Prius.  Hybrid technology is expensive in order to get them on the market for a reasonable price the government has to subsidize them. So basically some of our tax money is being used to help Hollywood millionaires buy a car. A car that no matter how much they drive it will never off set how much they pollute with their other cars and limos and I can't forget the private jets, usually a Gulfstream G5. This in one flight will use enough fuel to power all three of my cars for at least three years!Did I forget the huge houses these people live in? Mansions around 10-35,000 sq. ft. and they usually have more than one. I think it will cost more than the $180 I pay a month to heat and cool my house. Plus the use of natural resources to build such massive homes, and the fuel it takes to ship the materials and the factories it takes to produce the furnishings and the man made materials used in construction.  So who exactly needs the strength to change, and use mass transit? Oh, and who are you going to pray to for that change? The God you refuse to acknowledge? Here's an idea until Hollywood has the power to stop being the land of raging hypocrites and stop using this country, the world, and all of its natural resources as their personal play toy, SHUT UP!!
