March 17th, 2008 Mekong Café “one magical river, three enchanting cusines” opened up with a goal to bring a new twist to the area. It offers an extensive menu with many food selections from three different type of cuisines; Laos, Thai and Vietnamese.
Mekong Café is a family owned and operated by a mother and daughter team; Banh and Sichanh Phongsavat. Banh and her family moved here to America in 1988 and settled in Milwaukee since 1990. Banh always had a passion in cooking and sharing her food with families and friends. She worked at numerous well known Thai Restaurant giving her the opportunity to gain experience and skills, on how to run a successful restaurant. After many years working in the industry, she then decided to open up her own and wanting to share her culture to people through her authentic cooking.
Banh named her restaurant Mekong Café because she said it makes her feel closer to home. The Café is named the same as Mekong which is one of the great rivers of Asia, originating in China and flowing through Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Mekong Café offers a clean, simple décor that features scenic painting of Southeast Asia, embroideries and carved wooden screen at the entrance creating a relaxing setting for a delightful meal with low Thai classical music in the background. Most importantly authentic food!

“Super menu” by TimJ
March 05, 2009 - Likes it - We ordered carry-out. First, the Sample Platter on
the Appetizer menu is superb! You could actually make a small meal for 2 out of it. We also ordered the Red Curry from the Curry section of the menu and the Vietnamese Sweet Sour Noodle from the Vietnamese section. Both were above average -- the Sweet Sour Noodle is the best I’ve had in 20 years! We’ll definitely be back for more.

“We found this restaurant after reading some favorable reviews on Google/Yahoo. So, needless to say, we had high expectations. Our expectations were blown away. What absolutely delicious food. We’ve now been 3 times in a span of 3 weeks. I definitely recommend the Hot Orange Tea and the Veggie Spring Rolls. Both are a must every time we go. If you’re in the mood for a dish that is refreshing, healthy and delicious...try the Sweet ‘N Sour Noodles from the Vietnamese menu. (We like to have Tofu added.) Enjoy!”
