Downtown Atlantic Restaurant & Bakery made its debut in Boerum Hill in April, 2003. The opening marked another milestone in the ongoing transformation of this vibrant Brooklyn community. Once a destination predominantly known for antiques and Middle Eastern shops, Downtown Atlantic now provides this traditional Brooklyn neighborhood with the distinction of being the home of fine dining in classy, comfortable surroundings.

While 2003 marked the beginning of Downtown Atlantic Restaurant & Bakery, principal owners and chefs, Kurt and Fran Sippel have been part of the Downtown Brooklyn scene since the early 1990s. As many smiling visitors to our bakery have discovered, Fran is our pastry chef. She has been creating delectable cakes and desserts since her days as Cakes and Cookies by Fran, which was located in the same storefront on Atlantic Avenue where Joel Wolf had previously operated the neighborhood favorite restaurant, Lissane.

Kurt, Fran and their cousin and partner Frank D'Accordo are all Brooklyn natives, born and raised in Sheepshead Bay and Mill Basin. They are also graduates of the fine hotel and restaurant management program at New York City Technical College. Their success and ongoing contribution to the unique charm and character of Downtown Brooklyn is a gratifying testament to their dedication to Downtown Atlantic Restaurant & Bakery and the wonderful neighbors and friends it serves.
